Living where we live, means that you don't often get people calling in as they're passing ... so when I arrived back from my 'chores' this morning and found a road bike leaning against the wall, I knew something must be wrong. The bike in question belongs to a young lady who had been pointed in my direction after snapping her rear mech'.
A Campag 10sd rear mech' isn't the sort of thing I'd have lying around the workshop. After half an hour on the phone it would also appear that no bike shop within 50 miles had one either ... however, 5 minutes on the internet and the required item was bought and should arrive within 24 hours ... which is lucky as she's meant to be setting off cycling to London on Saturday.
An incentive to go singlespeed or commando!
During the course of conversation I happened to ask how it had happened ... as you would. She was a little hesitant to tell me at first but eventually explained. It would appear that after searching for something in her panniers she hadn't re-packed them very well ... the result was a thong finding its way out of the panniers and into the drivetrain!
So let that be a lesson to everyone ... make sure you pack your knickers properly or the result could be quite expensive.
